abusTechnology inc., February 23, 2009 announced the release of abusSTAR v2.0, a major upgrade, doubling the system performance, providing schools with significantly expanded data collection for reporting, control options for customization and updates to the industry-standard Web enabled data management tools.This release also expands the option for continuous assessment of student academic and non-academic activities across multiple school years by each term, and provides for timely feedback to parents on student performance.

abusSTAR is an Education Management Information System (EMIS) visit, www.abusSTAR.com, designed to meet the needs of of Secondary and Primary schools in the Caribbean. It provides Teachers and school Administrators with a powerful tool for managing administrative tasks, the Ministry of Education with access to school reports and statistical information, and parents with access to the children academic reports.

abusSTAR delivers information about each school to the public, using a secure Web interface and tracking the data on students across multiple academic years. Upgrades in abusSTAR v2.0 release:

Enhanced Performance. The improvement in the back-end database and the user interface provides faster access to stored data. Users will experience a significant increase in the system response time to data retrieval, general system performance and an increase in productivity.

Access Control. Administrators have greater control to define what information individual staff members can access and edit, providing greater flexibility and extended privileges to school principals, year heads and form teachers.

Continuous Assessment. Staff can create categories of assessments and choose whether the grades are applied to a final score. In addition to the final term reports, parents and guardians can receive timely additional information on their child’s performance throughout the school term.

Schedules and Timetables. Class schedules and timetables are improved and supports the Administrator’s defined names. Teachers can schedule multiple class registrations for multiple year levels and year groups. The periods for class in the scheduling and timetables can be customized supporting the change in the duration of the period and the number of periods in one day. This level of flexibility makes abusSTAR unique in supporting both Secondary and Primary schools, and their unique requirements in classes and periods scheduled in the timetable.

Expanded Reporting. abusSTAR v2.0 offers additional data collection capabilities to reduce time needed to provide reports required of individual schools by the Ministry of Education for statistical reporting. This includes new tools and expands the capability for student tracking and staff placement, withdrawal, qualification and transfer, and enables the production of reports on academic performance at a greater level of detail than ever before.
